The Black-winged Stilt or Common Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) is a widely distributed very long-legged wader in the avocet and stilt family (Recurvirostridae).
The mating of this species is very attractive with well-defined phases.
After the first approach by the male, the female who agrees the relationship, stretches his head forward and don't move; the male begins a kind of dance,
pecking at the water both sides of the female, with fast and repeated movements. At this point the male rise above the female and gently lowers and concludes the act in just a second.
The longest part of the reproductive act is at the end, when both rub against each other. Male and female finally walk together for few steps and continue with everyday life.
