The Pied Avocet, Recurvirostra avosetta, is a large black and white wader in the avocet and stilt family, Recurvirostridae.
The coupling of this species is very attractive with well-defined phases.
After the first approach by the male, the female who agrees the relationship, lowers his head to reach the water and don't move; the male after a period of indifference begins to wash the face of the female with vigorous pecking.
At this point the male rise above the female and gently lowers and concludes the act in just a second.
The longest part of the reproductive act is at the end, when both rub against each other. Male and female finally walk together for few steps and continue with everyday life. |
Maschio e femmina compiono infine qualche passo insieme e proseguono nelle normali abitudini.
